Cubs Scouts are girls and boys who join the section at the age of eight and move on to Scouts between the ages of ten and eleven, they can move up from Beavers at approx 8 years of age or just start the section without having been a Beaver previously. The group is called a Cub Scout Pack, which would usually have between 6 and 36 members and a mixture of uniformed leaders and regular helpers.

There are loads of fun activities for a Cub Scout to do, such as swimming, music, computing, exploring, trips to the zoo, theme parks and farms, the list is endless. Sometimes they go camping; this will mean sleeping in a hall or a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities. There is a Cub Scout Programme which has been developed to meet the general needs, likes and abilities of the young people within the group.

Most Packs meet once a week, with the session lasting up to 2 hours, more often than not in the Group Scout hall, however they could meet in the local village, community or church hall. Activities such as camping, walking, swimming and trips, will normally be carried out on the weekend.

If you would like to have fun taking part in Cub Scouting, either as a Cub Scout, or as an Ault Leader or helper, please contact us.

Jill Burge
Jill BurgeI began my involvement with scouting in 1984 when my eldest son Richard joined th 1st Llanedeyrn Cub pack. I remained with the 1st Llanedeyrn until 1991 when I transferred to the 3rd Llanedeyrn as ACSL. In 1992 and took over as Akela, I gained my Wood badge in 1995, and remained in the 3rd Llanedeyrn until taking on the post of ADC Cubs in the former Terra Nova district 1n 2001, I also trained as a training advisor, and took on the role as AST.

Following the disbanding of the 3RD Llanedeyrn I again took on the role for a short time as AST in the new South East District, then in June 2007 I agreed to job share the role of AAC cubs with Steve Gorwill.

Steve Gorwill
Steve GorwillHi my name is Steve Gorwill I joined Scouting as a Cub way back in 1962 and have been in more or less since then mostly with the Cub Section as a ACSL then running various Cub Packs but mostly where I started in the 29th Cardiff now part of East aand South Distrct. I have held roles as AGSL, DC and AAC Cubs, recently returning to that role on a 'job share basis' with Jill Burge.

I have also been involved in Cardiff Gang Show and was Production Manager for five years, thankfully my wife Lynda shares my enthusiasm for Scouting as does my daughter Emma who now runs the Wednesday night Cub Pack of the 29th Cardiff.

I look forward to meeting new friends and re-uniting with old friends I am usually my own worse enemy in that I say " yes" first then worry about how I am going to fit it all in, but that said as long as I can see happy Cubs at the end of it then I'm happy! (OK Beavers, Scouts, Explorers and Network are OK as well!!)
