The Area Office 'The Hub' at Maitland Street was officially opened in April 2008 after outgrowing it's previous Headquarters 'RER House'.
The building acts as a resource base to support Scouting throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Area office is staffed by our Area Administrator - Fay
Harding-Lewis and volunteers. In addition to providing general information about Scouting and activities in the Area, the office also has meeting rooms, a photocopier and a resource centre of publications and other material to support leaders. Please let us know if you would like to use any of these facilities.
The office is open Monday to Friday from 9.30 to 12.30. Outside these times an answering service is available.
Among the services provided from The Hub is the direct mailing of information to section leaders. Approximately every two months we send a package of the latest information by post to leaders. The Area directory is used to circulate this information - so it's essential we know when a section leader changes or moves.
About The Hub
There are two unisex individual toilets, a disabled toilet and a kitchen area stocked with tea and coffee, please help yourself to this when using the centre. The building also has a designated room for Network and of course the Area Scout Office also occupies a room, the Area photocopier now lives in the corridor so everyone can have access to this facility.
Each meeting room is fitted with vertical blinds and comes with a projector screen, a white board, a pin board and a flipchart on easel.
There is a large main hall and three syndicate rooms of varying sizes.
Main Hall - The Main Hall is the largest of our rooms and is 7.2m x 6.9m and can seat up to 50 people in theatre style seating.
Gilwell – Named after The Scout Associations HQ, campsite and training facility based in Chingford and the largest of our three syndicate rooms. Size 4.5m x 5.4m can accommodate up to 20 people
Brownsea – Named after the birthplace of Scouting, a small island off the coast of Dorset was the site of Robert Baden-Powell’s first experimental camp. Size 3.2m x 5.4m can accommodate up to 15 people
Reynolds – Named after Roland Exton Reynolds, the benefactor of our previous facility RER House. Size 3.9m x 4.2m can accommodate up to 15 people.
