2007 marks the Centenary of Scouting and is being celebrated with special events locally, nationally and internationally, culminating in the 21st World Scout Jamboree to be held in Hylands Park, Essex in 2007.
Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Scout Area is taking this opportunity to look back at what has been achieved, take stock of the present and plan for the future.
Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.
Among the events held in the build-up to 2007 have been a ‘Most Imaginative Place to …’ competition and Day in the Bay, which saw nearly 700 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts enjoying a day of activities alongside members of the Network and leaders. A major football event at the Millennium Stadium was hosted in 2006 and it is planned to open a Scout group in the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.
Scouting is a vibrant and youthful organisation and celebrates its centenary in 2007 so why not make everyday an adventure and with just a few hours of your time can make years of difference.
'10 bins, 4 planks of wood, 3m of rope and a river full of crocodiles. Sounds like a normal Tuesday night?'
If you are interested in joining the adventure please get in touch or fill out some basic details on our join us form and we'll get back to you.

Scouting's Sunrise
On 1st August 2007 Scouts of every age from around UK will join with 28 million Scouts from around the world to celebrate the dawn of a new Century of Scouting.
Here in Cardiff we will be having our own ceremony in the city centre to mark the anniversary by holding a collection on Queen Street and using the money collected to create a giant Fleur-de-Lys. All money collected will go to charity with Scouting on display to all showing that Scouting is just alive now as it was in the beginning.

Join in Centenary
Join-in-Centenary
is a year-long programme of month-by-month activities for
all Members of Scouting. The programme will take you on
a journey that helps you and your Scouts explore adventure,
international friendship, community and the environment
among other themes. Join-in-Centenary is also totally interactive,
allowing it to be adapted to suit local needs, local priorities
and activities.
Hard copies of the Join-in-Centenary booklets, wallcharts and stickers have been mailed to each Section, via Group Scout Leaders, District Commissioners and County/Area Commissioners. Make sure you ask your relevant line manager for your Section's copy. You can also choose to download the programme content by clicking the links above, either as a complete document or for the relevant Centenary month. Extra support for the programmes is available on the website, in the form of printable resources and internet links.
