Adult Training in Cardiff and the
Vale of Glamorgan
No
one is expected to start a new job without some sort of training, and Scouting is just the same. You will also bring with you a wide variety of skills and abilities, and Scouting recognises these too. There are some parts of the training that are essential and can relate only to Scouting, but a lot of them can draw on your outside of Scouting experiences to complete the Modules needed for your role.

You will start off with the Getting Started Modules which will not only give you a good grounding in what Scouting is all about, but will also help you play a valuable role in your Scouting role. These are elements of the training that every adult in Scouting needs.
All of the Modules have to be validated but this is not as horrible as it sounds. It is simple projects and discussions that show you understand what you and Scouting is doing, by doing things you normally would in your role. Your Getting Started Modules will be assessed by your Group Scout Leader or Commissioner and is quite informal.

Depending on your role you will be expected to complete a series of Modules that will take you to the award of the Wood Badge the internationally recognized emblem of a trained Leader in Scouting. For this you will be guided through your training by a Training Adviser who will help you through the preparation of a Personal Learning Plan, assess what you have achieved and validate the Modules for you.

Meet the Area Training Manager
Lynn Thompson
I joined Scouting in 1978 as a Venture Scout Leader with the 7th Cardiff. My claim to fame is being the first female Venture Scout Leader in Cardiff. I then became a Cub Scout Leader as they were short staffed; I stayed with them for a few years. I was a member of the District team for a while in Castle District.
When the Beavers became a probability I joined the team in Dinas District to start a Colony up in the 38th.
Since then I have been ADC Beavers for Dinas and South East Districts. In between I joined in with the Training team doing various bases on courses and worked my way on to the team firstly facilitating and then becoming a presenter. Just before the new training scheme came into existence I had completed a Directing course at Gilwell. I was a member of the team that presented the new training scheme and have worked my way to being Area Training Manager.
I want very much to succeed in this position as many people have put their trust and faith in me to do this job. I cannot do this without the support of all you Leaders, I look forward to working with you all.
