Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme

NewThe updated Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme is the result of a two year consultation on the existing Authorisation Scheme. It is an internal assessment scheme designed to ensure that all those leading adventurous activities for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to do so.

Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan moved over to the new adventurous activity permit scheme on the 1st February 2007.

Meet the AAC Activities
Mark Glendinning
Mark GlendinningI started Scouting when I was 6 and joined Beavers at the 4th Dovercourt Sea Scout group in Tendring, Essex and have been involved ever since. Progressing through the sections I gained my Chief Scout Award and Challenge in Scouts, moving into Venture Scouts (later Scout Network) I obtained my Queens Scout Award and attended the annual St Georges Day parade at Windsor.

In 1999 I moved to Cardiff to study for a Civil Engineering degree and graduated in 2003 with a MEng first class honours degree. During university I was involved with the Student Scout and Guide Organisation (SSAGO) as a local club chair and also as national treasurer. In 2000 I completed my MLTB training and was invited to join the Essex Scout Mountaineering Activity Team (ESMAT). After my undergraduate degree I was able to commit more time to Scouting and joined the 1st Barry Sea Scout group taking up an ASL position and getting involved with the water activities in the group.

I am currently in the final year of a Geoenvironmental PhD also at Cardiff University and an active member of Scout Network having served on the Network Exec as the Explorer Liaison and Communications officer and now enjoying the last few months as a member before I finish the section. My greatest acheivement in Network was the international trip to Canada where I obtained my Explorer Belt.

In June 2005 I was approached to join the Area team on the activities side and was appointed AAC Activities with the responsibility for the activities in the Area including all the adventurous activities and nights away. I was responsible for the organisation and running of the Area activity event 'Day in the Bay' which saw all sections from the entire Area come together as one. I enjoy my outdoor activities from sailing, climbing and mountaineering and look forward to improving the activities within CATVOG.
