Water Activity Support

Kayaking Sailing
The Area Water activities team helps members of the Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network participate in Water Activities. You do not have to be an expert to take part in these activities if you want to know more contact a member of the team. There are a series of Fact sheets available that cover all the scout regulations associated with water based activities.

The team consists of people that have an interest and experience of a range of water based activities and if the sport you are interested in is not supported directly, will assist by providing further information.

During the year the Water Activities team provides Canoe training, canoe slalom and river trips, annual fishing competition and information on events such as Power boating, Dragon boating, Sailing and Diving.

Steve Jones - Area Adviser for Water Activities
I have been involved with Scouting for over 20 years, both as a Venture Scout leader, Scout leader, and more recently as District Scout leader. My current role involves co-ordination and organisation of water activities within the area and with the rest of the team, the running of a range of water based activities.

The team is also responsible for the assessment of people and equipment used for water based activities. Currently I hold the Welsh Canoe Association Level 3 coach qualification (kayak) and would be interested in hearing from anyone in the area that would like to join the team and assist in providing training or support to others in any water based activity.

Welsh Scout Council Water Activities

The Welsh Scout Council now has a well established programme of canoeing events in its calendar, and is developing a similar calendar for sailing.

These events provide both Scouts and Leaders with the opportunity to be trained and authorised properly, such that they can enjoy their water activity in both a controlled and safe environment whilst retaining that element of adventure essential to developing self-reliance.

The organisers of the events would welcome qualified coaches and authorisation holders to assist with the instruction on training weekends and leading on the cruises.
