Area Shooting Instructor Team
Scouting has a long association with shooting, dating back to Lord Baden Powell introducing the Marksman Badge for rifle shooting up to 600 yards. It is a sport in it's own right, encouraging fitness and concentration, without excluding those less physically able or with disabilities. Shooting is a growing activity in Scouting, culminating in the National Scout Shooting Competition at Bisley in which over 600 Scouts and Leaders compete.
Shooting has been a Scout activity for many years but due to restrictions on equipment and a lack of leaders trained and motivated enough to organise this activity, only a relatively small number of Scouts have been able to participate in this sport. We are fortunate in CATVOG to be able to offer this activity across the entire Area.
Shooting is a recognised sport and is one of the Olympic disciplines with variations in both the Winter and Summer games. Its one of the few official sports that both disabled and able-bodied athletes can compete in against each other. The aim of the course run by the qualified Scout Leaders is to intoduce the Scout to this sport. The training contributes to their development of self-discipline, respect for authority and an awareness of risks. The Leaders will encourage the Scout to gain a practical understanding of the realities and dangers of guns in a safe and controlled enviroment.
In 2006 Richie Phillips was appointed as Area Adviser for Shooting Activities. Richie set about recruiting a number of active Leaders to form the Area Rifle Shooting Team and a small team of dedicated individuals are now trained and available to lead Shooting as a Scout led activity.

Hire the Shooting Team
We have a team of instructors that are available to instruct Air gun shooting to Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Scout Network and Fellowship in the Area. All equipment is provided and a session is run for 2 hours and will cost £20.
Ideal numbers are 16 Scouts per session although larger numbers may be accommodated but will result in a reduce number of shoots per person.
To book a session please contact Richie Phillips by telephone on 01446 748688 or via email.
The purchase of the equipment and instructor training was part funded by the Sports Council for Wales.
